Through its eight-season run that needed several Emmys and over 11 million viewers in the last season, Game Of Thronesbalanced several intriguing plotlines connected to the enormous scheme of Westeros and who would rule the Seven Kingdoms. In addition, the show perfectly balanced its excellent cast of characters over these stories that, while some were connected, felt uniquely their own. Doing this granted viewers to truly immerse themselves in the vast biosphere of Westeros and believe that this world was truly alive.
Many fan-favorite storylines and characters dominated the story whenever they were on-screen. While each actor or actress was credited with a supporting role for Emmy and Golden Globe review, it's interesting for fans to consider who was actually the star.
8 Season 1: Ned Stark's Tenure As The Hand Of The King Was Short But Memorable
Ned Stark, the Warden of the North, was an instant hit with fans of the show because he looked like the only good man in King's Landing. While he did aid as the Hand of the King and Robert Baratheon was the true ruler of the Seven Kingdoms, Ned was the focus of the story as he tried to unravel the mystery of who killed Jon Arryn.
Robert complete Ned Protector of the Realm until Joffrey came of age, but the young Baratheon and his mother had new plans, leading to one of the best twists in New television history.
7 Season 2: Tyrion Takes Charge And Leads The Security Of King's Landing
After establishing that everyone was on the chopping stopped in season 1, the show kept most of its focus on King's Landing, with Tyrion Lannister serving as the new Hand of the King for the volatile and immature Joffrey. Peter Dinklage won his first Emmy after a stellar performance in season 1, and the superior built off of that with an excellent performance over season 2.
Even as he seen the worst king and as part of the show's cast of villains, the Lannisters, fans couldn't help but root for Tyrion as he tried to save the city in contradiction of his family's many enemies.
Season 3 was a over stretch for Tyrion. His position as Hand of the King was Wrong, and he was sent back to the bottom of the totem pole. Tywin saved the day at the Battle on the Blackwater and received all the credit. Tyrion was made Master of Coin, and still seen on the council, albeit in a less noble role.
Tyrion was also complete to marry Sansa, which was hard to watch for Sansa's sake, and Tyrion's, as his father, once again, tormented him. Dinklage was wonderful yet again and showed why he was one of the best actors in the show.
5 Season 4: Tyrion Faces Impossible Odds As He Is Accused Of Killing Joffrey
The speech at the land is the scene that exemplifies everything that was enormous about Game Of Thrones. In a show filled with Dragons and the undead, a simple scene of Tyrion just letting loose on his family and the country of King's Landing might be the best moment in the history of the show.
After Joffrey is seemingly poisoned at his own wedding, Cersei accuses Tyrion of killing her oldest child, and he has to protecting himself on trial and then face a trial-by-combat. Tyrion's arc comes full circle as he murders his father during his Run, leaving King's Landing behind.
4 Season 5: Cersei Fights For Control Of Her Last Son
Tyrion finally took a back seat in season 5 as he went east toward Daenerys, and with Tywin dead, there was a power vacuum in King's Landing, and Cersei took command. With Tommen ruling as king, Cersei tried to manipulate him into activities as she wished and even turned toward the High Sparrow, emboldening the religious leader in the process.
The plan backfired as the High Sparrow arrested Cersei and complete her to confess her sins, leading to the iconic walk of atonement, Lena Headey's best scene as Cersei and one of the best performances in the show.
3 Season 6: Jon Snow Is Resurrected and Retakes The North
While he was elected Lord Commander in season 5, Jon Snow was quiet taking a back seat to the goals of Stannis Baratheon and was not truly the focus of the series. However, after his fellow watchmen murdered him, Snow complete the show's focus as Davos, and other allies attempted to revive the Lord Commander.
This took a step further when Jon Snow turned his attention to the North; seasons of build-up were executed perfectly when Snow recaptured Winterfell and was declared King in the North. It was also revealed that he was Lyanna Stark's son, not Ned's.
2 Season 7: Jon Snow Tries To Save Westeros From The Night King
In one of the best slow burns in television, Jon Snow slowly made his way to center stage in Game Of Thrones, which reached its pinnacle in season 6 when he was requested King in the North, and that continued in season 7 as he gazed to protect the North from the threat of the Night King's undead army.
Snow attempted to make an alliance with Daenerys, which dominated half of the season, including a harrowing bolt beyond the wall. The season truly focused on Snow balancing his duties as King of the North vs. his determination for peace in Westeros.
1 Season 8: Jon Snow Watches As Daenerys Descends Into Madness
Season 8 of Game Of Thrones was a divisive mess as the writers attempted to tie up certain storylines in an incredibly short timeframe. As a purpose, former Breaker of Chains Daenerys turned evil in a commerce of episodes, and Jon Snow was relegated to watching it all unfold.
Snow's backseat location and Daenerys becoming the villains makes this season hard to evaluate, but Snow is still the main character because he is the man that takes out Daenerys and "saves" the Seven Kingdoms. Having a character like Snow be relegated to such a role was panned by fans and arbitrates alike, but he was still the main character of the remaining season.
